Fewer supplier audits due to new standards
Standards in all industries ensure that there is an approach that is generally accepted. Committees at DIN and the Joint Committee of ISO and ASTM unite a large number of relevant market participants and already provide a good range of standards.
We are committed to the standardization of additive manufacturing. For example, we have taken the lead in the following standardization projects:
- DIN SPEC 17071 (expected publication April 2019), guideline for quality-assured processes in additive manufacturing centers
- ISO/ASTM PWI 52920, additive manufacturing - qualification principles - quality-assured processes for industrial AM centre
Within the standardization projects we deal with the examination contents, which address a constant component quality over different orders, both with always the same as well as with different Dienstleistern. The quality control required from a technological and operational point of view forms a common denominator for additional requirements. On the other hand there is the effort, especially for small companies, to ensure correct compliance with all standards and to keep an eye on the development of new standards. In special industries, such as the aviation industry, additional requirements are defined, e.g. for machine acceptance, operator qualification, powder testing, etc.
In DIN SPEC 17071, for example, all quality-relevant areas of an additive manufacturing centre are considered. These include among others:
- Documentation of the work steps
- Qualification of equipment, material and process
Certification according to this standard (e.g. the Additive Manufacturer certification) has a number of different advantages for the entire ecosystem.
