Hybrid AM: Faster production of more powerful components

By combining additive construction and direct surface finishing, Hybrid Additive Manufacturing enables injection molds to be produced faster, easier, and with fewer components.

The combination of additive construction and direct finishing of the surfaces brings in this example great advantages over conventional production.

  • Thanks to Hybird Additive Manufacturing, the number of components has been reduced from 9 to 2
  • By designing three-dimensional, contoured cooling channels, the cooling time could be reduced from 18 to 8 seconds (without quality loss)
  • The injection cycle time could be reduced by 33 percent, from 30 to 20 seconds
  • The simplified manufacturing process (one program, one machine) resulted in a 40 percent time reduction from design to completion
