Service AM Expo 2023

Seminar: Introduction to additive manufacturing and 3D printing, Winterthur, 26 September

Our seminar provides you with a structured overview of 3D printing technology and the individual processes involved. It features a particular focus on the key market-relevant technologies. Attendees will come away with clear recommendations for action when dealing with additive manufacturing.

The field of additive manufacturing has enjoyed an incredible boost in the last few years. Affordable end-consumer printers have become widespread across the “maker scene”, opening up a wealth of new possibilities for manufacturing. Positive reports about these new possibilities have generated a great deal of hype. Despite the new opportunities it has brought for manufacturers, the real-world capabilities of this technology often fall short of expectations. This is partly due to the quality of the parts and materials available. Another issue is the fact that the printers used in the end-consumer environment are overwhelmingly based on the FDM or DLP processes, which means they can only be used for a very limited range of processes.

Alongside the development of 3D printing technology, which has generated a great deal of excitement with the general public, a far greater number of processes has been developed and refined in the field of industrial 3D printing (i.e. additive manufacturing) in recent years. Originally used for rapid prototyping when developing industrial products, the AM processes are now successfully established in certain market niches. Innovative processes have been developed for dentistry, together with associated products. Examples include the emergence of brand-new processes for scanning teeth, as well as for recording and correcting the data and manufacturing dental prostheses. In toolmaking, mould-making for tyre production, aircraft construction, medical technology and cost-effective small-batch production, for instance, the use of AM processes has now become standard practice.

This seminar provides a structured overview of 3D printing technology and the individual processes involved, and focuses on the key market-relevant technologies. Attendees will come away with clear recommendations for action when dealing with additive manufacturing.
